bitmap fonts & texures in OpenGL

Hi all

I want to print some text on the screen in my 3D program. I am using bitmap fonts ( - OpenGL tutorial #13).
When I enable texture mapping I am not able to change the color of the text - it is all black.
I tried to disable the texture mapping, then print the text and then reenable the texture mappind and it didn't work either.
