Table Manners

Hi

I've got a web site, I want to put a table in it.
I want the table to be the same as a txt file I load up.

I am doing this because I think it is an easy way to keep a table up to date. and have minimal uploads and mantainance time, and minimal software requirements.
I, the developer will be using DreamWeaver, the person maintaining it will probably have some cheap FTP program.

Cheers

Hadji

  • OK, I'm not that good with HTML yet, could you please explain what the code does, It doesn't seem to work, where does the test.txt have to be? does it automaticaly take the format?
What do the dots do? am I supposed to put somthing there? or are they there for any reason? Should it work if I just copy and paste it? or should I do something to it?
And 'try sth.' isn't that something from Star Wars? (Jedi of the dark side?)
    I'M CONFUSED

    Many thanks

  • Hi!
First of all sth. means something!
Well I found a solution after quite a time but not with an text-file but with an JavaScript-file.
    [code]
    <!DOCTYPE = html
    PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML1.0 Strict//EN"

    table experiment

Here you have the heading of your table!
    The last comment....

    [/code]
    and this comes into jj.js:
    [code]
    document.write("Blablabalf
    ghdjkslafdghsajkhj")
    [/code]
    note that
is like pressing return as you will see after viewing this in a browser.
Use this freely. For more info go to: www.w3schools.com
I hope I explained this good enough.

  • in my last thread I wrote note... and then there should be "<"br">" (but without any"" so this was executed by the browser!)

  • Cheers, it works but...

    http://reghif.tripod.com/Army/Diary.htm

That's what I'm trying to create.
Can I, with the code supplied create something like that? the only way I can think of doing it is making a file for each cell.
The use of the JavaScript file is fine.

I'm not very good at this yet, but...

Any way, that's enough for now, if I think any more I'll go crazy

  • I think that your site is OK but there are these tripod's banners.
There are ways to get rid of them BUT I DON'T KNOW IF YOU WOULD BE KICKED THEN BY TRIPOD:
1.If you know the name of the banners (from the sourcecode of your site) you can write a script which hides them.
2.At tripod you can choose between banners and popup adversiting. With popup windows there is a script I use at s2u.org and it works pretty fine. It opens the popup and directly closes it again.
3.If you make an account at kickme.to or beam.to then if popup windows are chose they are not showed but the popups from kickme (or beam) every 5 minutes.

    Then I have a question.
I never heard of the [code][/code]tag you use. What is it good for??

And by the way I worked out a more comfortable way of writing text in JS. Now you don't have to write your whole text in one line just making the line breaks with the HTML tag for linebreaks. You can but a backslash to write the rest in a new line so you have a better overview while writing the text.

If you want to I could sent you the the files which we were talking about the hole time by email. Because reading sourcecode on this page is quite hard and sometimes the sourcecode is even executed...

    So gimme your email add.
    Happy new year!
