which compiler?

I just decided to learn C++ and already have visual c++ 4
so I was wondering if it would be better to use that or to go download the newest version of DJGPP?

  • I think visual C++ is a programming environment (you use it to write programs with) and DJPP is a compiler meaning all it does is transform the cpp code to an executable file. I have never used either but my suggestion is to lean and understand the santax of a language by hand coding and later move on to a visual development environment like borland or visual cpp.
This is only my opinion and keep in mind that I am not a C++ programmer so take it only for what it's worth.

  • MSVC is much easier to use (as it is an IDE, and not just a Compiler) than DJGPP. That doesn't mean it is any better or worse, just easier.
