MS-DOS SoundBlaster/Audio card detection

Hi folks,
I need some help with programming the SoundBlaster card.
I've downloaded Diamondware's sound toolkit for MS-Dos, but after compiling their source code
what you hear is a "please register..." male voice and only after that, the sound file you actually open.
So, if any one is familiar with Diamondware's excellent sound toolkit it will be much helpful, if you have a link to the full version
since i've read it's already freeware (out of time).
Otherwise, if you can refer me to some links on SoundBlaster programming under MS-Dos, i'll compromise on this one also.
What I actually need is C code for detecting and playing a sound file with the SoundBlaster card.
