Beginning to learn Java

Hi guys im just starting to learn scripting coding etc last week when I got my new computer. Im only 17 and entirely new to this. Anyway what i want to know is where should i start learning Java? Like software, programs, online guides etc. Can I use microsoft visual studios or any of that line of software? Or an alternative to that because the microsoft stuff is crazy expensive for full product. Thanks guys!
