I don't know anything about 3D acceleration, but how would you use the acceleration without a driver anyway? (Unless you want to write for only that card).
You may be able to access the memory buffer via the A0000h video window laid out by VESA, but I don't know if any card manufacturer cares about VESA too much anymore. I'm sure that they don't care about real mode though.
