NETBIOS

HI all,

I use angry IP scanner for discovering open ports over the network, generally the NETBIOS one.
When I open the shares, if it is not password protected then obviously the share opens but when it is password protected, sometimes it shows the username and prompts for the password, and sometimes I get the username and password field all blank ! what is the difference and whether it makes any difference in severity of password guessing ?!?
