Help WIth Animation And Speech Recognition

Hi Guys
im hoping someone can help me as im clueless to VB.
for a uni project i have to create an animation which repsonds to speech via a mic.

Now i have created a app in VB that displays text that is being said via mic, using SDK 5.1 in VB. Im happy with that.

Would anyone be able to help how i can create and animation that responds to the speech. A simple smiley face would do.

I have a number of .bmps i can use. the talkin mic seen in VB TTS application is similar to what i am aiming for.

any help would be greatly appreciated
