Hello, I am just starting to learn game programming...

Hello,

Firstly let me introduce myself,

My name is Conor, I'm 15 years old, I have always been interested in Video game design and made some games in RPG Maker, but I dont want to do that anymore, I want to PROGRAM my own games :)

If anyone could teach me some basic coding and a few things to help me design a simple RPG type game like EarthBound or one of those SNES type games I would be really grateful,

I have downloaded Visual C++ as one of my friends recommended it to me,
now I would just like some help with the basic coding

Also any info for doing these things:
1:Moving character
2:Using a sprite fr my character
3:How to make a map appear in my game
4:Switches (as in unlocking new things when you complete a certain goal)
5:Anything else anyone might think would be useful to me

Thanks to anyone who can help me in anyway, even if it is only something small :)

  • Do you already have sufficient experience in C++? If not, put all of your game developing ideas away for a few months and learn the language itself.

I can answer your questions, but it would be pointless if you dont have a good grasp of your language, programming, nor graphics API (OpenGL, DirectX, mabey even Win32).

If you do already have a good grasp of C++, please let us know the API you are using and I will be glad to assist you with any questions you may have ;-) May I suggest picking up Beginning OpenGL game programming book?

I Would Suggest C# and CPP
If you won't a easy way to learn programming you could go
    with XNA http://creators.xna.com/

Microsoft has a lot of videos on game programming. great videos
I would also suggest useing your search engine for things like
    lecture video

It would be very helpfull to take a cource in maybe trig calculus physics some algebra
calculus will help alot becouse most stuff is documented in calculus
