Looking for a Mentor

I am looking for someone to, as the old sayig goes, take me under their wing. I am completely new to this. I was told by someone that this could be the place to find someone that would help me in my quest to become a programmer. I am interested in learning C++. If this is the wrong place to post this kind of post i apologize to whoever is offended by it in advance. I will work extremely hard and will never give up until i achieve my goals. If anyone is interested in doing this or helping me out please give me a way of contacting you and i would be very appreciative.

Thanks,

Devante

How strange! Anyway in light of this odd post. I thought I would take the liberty to point out that you should be able to teach yourself these things. That is how I came to know of them. To help you on this matter, I say just go to internet and look for a book. I will even do this for you right now and post what I think you be worth looking at.

Rightio, well here my recommendation. It took me about 3 seconds to find.
www.cplusplus.com/doc/tutorial/ I myself learn from these at first and though I have had formal education on this nowadays.

If you do not have access to an internet connection commonly I would say try to download a zipped tutorial. Again, google it.

To be honest with you I would probably not even with trying to learn C++ initially though I did so. I find now with some actual experience that you would probably be better off learning to program at first in Java as lots of good free material exists on it.

By the way the final one of contributions is the name of a decent IDE, which is something you really need when first begin. For C++ on windows google C++ bloodshed and on anything for Java google netbeans. I also understand that Netbeans sends out free CDs nowadays though they probably take four weeks to arrive. Lastly, if you are on linux than find your own way because this automatically means you are semicompentant.

    I wish you well.

Thanks for all of the input. I am on my way to learning C++. Since i know absolutely no one that knows this language that is why i was asking for a mentor or maybe i wasn't asking for the right things. The trouble that i am having is that when i go to do an exercise , not knowing how this works totally, and it doesn't work. I have to go to a message board and post on it waiting for a response from someone. This might take 10 minutes then it might be 2 days before i get a response. But having someone that i could ask about the problem that i could talk to would help alot. That is what i was trying to get at with this post.

    Thanks again,

    Devante
