drop down list

i dont know who to ask other than u guys:

am woriking on netbeans 5.5.1/ web application:

i need to choose data from a drop down list and upon choosing them the data selected are to be written into the database(i.e. update database).

it works with me if am adding info from text fields but not from drop down lists or combotext...plzz help
