Help Message board hacked

A friend of my wifes' message board got hacked. They change the password so she can't access the admin center. How can she get back in to fix this?

Email the admin for the message board and explain what has happened.

If you got it on your own server, reboot it and log in as root and change the password back.

It is a Hot Boards message board. My wifes friend owns the message board. So I guess she needs to contact HotBoards and explaine to them?? Because of the Password change she can't ban users or change or edit the board.
