fixing laptop hard drive problem

HI all
I have two questions reguarding an ASUStech laptop.
1) what is the problem when the laptop does not detect the hard drive? Is it the hard drive problem or the laptop problem? (the hard drive is in the laptop)
2)Is there any way to revive a hard drive that is not detected by installing a driver for it or reformating it?
thanks

Odds are it's the hard drive that is failing, but it could be the laptop too, or it's remotely possible that it could be a cable that's loose or bad power connection.

Unfortunately, no. This is a hardware problem that cannot be fixed with software. I would suggest pulling the hard drive out and trying it in another notebook or getting an adapter to attach it to a standard PC. That way you can better determine if the hard drive is failing or the notebook.

: I dont think it is the connection problem, must likely it is the hard drive problem. so there is no way to reformat it using a driver to have the computer detect it and connected to a pc to reformat it?
    thanks

You might try spinrite (www.grc.com) or some diagnostic utilities from the hard drive manufacturer. (check their website)

Typically if a hard drive isn't even being detected by the BIOS, there is very little that any software will be able to do. If the hardware is broken, there won't be anything for the software to talk to...
