The ROM is a small chip on the motherboard. Its job is to initialize all the hardware in your computer to a point that it can load an operating system. The ROM is often referred to as the BIOS.
It has nothing to do with hard disks.

:Thanks .. so is the access speed of the ROM faster or slower than that of the RAM please? I'm doing some notes for a students' worksheet and I need to mention the difference between the access speeds of RAM and ROM.
