beat recognition algorithm

Hi!

I need to write a piece of code that can recognize the beat rate (the beats per minute, BPM, value) of a sound block. There must be a an algorithm for this, but I'm not very familiar with any form of wave recognition.
I would appreciate any code samples, directions or hints.

this can be done with spectrum recognition, are u famelier with FFT Techniques, or I can help u, contact at my personal e-mailid sri2vc@yahoo.co.in for any detailed information
