Hello,
we have a pentium 3 with an ISA slot for SA85 ISA Card. Our pentium 3 breakdown already and we want to substitute for a pentium 4 only, some advises that this particular ISA slot is only accomodated for pentium 3 - can anybody confirm this?
Thanks alot,
Red

You won't find P4 with ISA slots. ISA was supposed to go away
way back and it's a mirracle that some PIII had motherboards with
one or two ISA. This is supposed to be MODBUS card.
I guess you have two options, to get one or two spare PIII machines
(they are dirt cheap) or to buy PCI card if you plan to run this
in forseable future...
The PCI-85 is MODBUS card with PCI interface. Since this is
industrial application money should not be the problem but you might
want to consider compatibility with your SCADA software and still go
the old hardware route (get used P3 machines).
If it is "mission critical" process, I would look into upgrading
everything (had and soft).

There actually is a P4 board with ISA slots made by Soyo - P4I845PE ISA - Intel Socket 478 ATX Motherboard available from tigerdirect.com
Although I agree that if you can get a PCI version of the card I would upgrade to that standard.

I have just installed a Pentium 4 SOYO P4I845PEISA motherboard with 1 ISA slot, I installed an SA85 ISA card in the ISA slot. I am running Windows XP Pro, Modbus Plus, Wonderware Intouch V9.0 and the system is running beautifully. All comms are good from app to card to PLC. I installed the latest MBX drivers and although the card does not appear in the device manager all systems are operating.

We are using in our factory some P4 motherboard manufatured by SUPERMICRO, they have 3 slot ISA and work very good. They are more expensive (abuot 250Euro) rather than only PCI slot motherboard.
