OK!I got two computers. One's workin and the other isn't. The one that is workin needs a tune-up bad, and the other one that isn't workin, well...it isn't workin. Now, the reason that the first one stoped workin is cause i somehow got that 'welchia worm32' or somthing like that. So i went to the site that had that tool to remove it, downloaded it, and it said it was removed. Good Deal right?! NO, since then it died. Crashed and burned. So i got my girlfriend's computer up and runnin, and bought a new 80 GIG drive for it. Well aparently ive infected This computer also by downloading the same music software on it. That's how smart i am with computers. Anywho, to make a long story short, I know very little about computers, but i'm a quick learner but bad speller. I want to learn how to start from scratch. I wanna use the motherboard from my computer(the one that's broke) and the 80 GIG hard drive, and various componets from this computer(my girlfriends), the one that's running. The reason that i wanna do this is because this computer is prety old, and the one that's mine is fairly new, with ALOT better parts init.
Now i'm to understand that ANY VIRUS OR WORM only attaches itself to the Hard Drive. Is this Correct?, If so, then a simple F-Disk is in order. Only, i'm sure that it's MUCH more complicated than that.Basicly, Is there a site that can run me through the whole process of building a computer from the ground up. From the buying process, to where every single last wire is connected to. I'm sure there are books on the subject, but if something doesn't work, and the book doesn't cover it, then i'm in trouble and im just gonna end up right back here, on the computer. OR, Can ANYONE give me a rundown, or a checklist of things that i need to do just to get this Hard Drive in that computer? I do have a Copy of WindowsXP. If ANYONE can help me, lemme know. I appriciate anything.

Hi!
Whew! Troubles, troubles! Let's see if I have it right.
You have two computers, "yours", which you call the better one even though it doesn't work, and "your girlfriends", which you call "pretty old", but it's working and has a virus on it. Do I have that right?
Ok, let's take a deep breath. Ready? OK, Innnnnnnn and ouuuuttttt! Good.
What we need to do is keep the working one working, and hopefully get the broken one working. Once that's done, and only then, you can swap parts back and forth in order to make a "better" one with the best parts from either one.
You should, however, make sure they are both working before swapping parts. We want to end up with two working computers, and we don't want two broken ones.
For now, let's not mess with the one that's working. If it's working, lets keep it that way. Find and download your favorite anti-virus (AV) software (Norton, or something like it), make sure you have the very latest virus definition file, run it, and see if there's a problem. If there is, the AV software should clean it up. All set? Good.
Now for the broken computer. How do you know it's broken? Does it boot? Give error(s)? Which one(s)
Do you still have the hard drive that was being used before buying the 80GB drive? Remove the current one and install that one. Works better? If not, what error(s)?
You should know that if a virus caused the initial problem(s), then some anti-virus method needs to be done. FDISK alone may not, and probably won't, solve the problem. Virus author are pretty sophisticated these days, and they often hide code in the master boot track, so FDISK will not erase it.
Basically, we can help, but you need to provide more info. Pick which one of the two computers you want to start with, and focus on that one until it's done. I'd recommend starting with the "working" one, and just making sure it's virus-free. That way you have something to use to help get the second non-working one back in shape.
Let us know how you're doing, OK?

Normally a virus or worm doesn't damage the hardware, because that are programs, which can do nothing more than overwrite disks - the worstcase.
Thus You need to re-install Your operating system and therefore You need only to refer to the according manual (no extra books!).
