Java Gaming

I just started using Java (and all programming) by following the Java Tutorial guides 1-4. I was just wondering about how long it takes to make a java-made game and if you have to usually draw your own graphics by hand. If anyone out in this "Heaven" can help me i would be very thankful! I am trying to make a game from scratch and figiting around with things... I have no clue where to find resources and such and again if anyone can give me help or tips i would really appreciate it!

If you care, I decided to use Game Maker 5, it is so simple and fun and I'll leave programming stuff off for a while!

I downloaded that. I never really used it though. Seems a good way of learning basic game design.
