Sound Blaster programming

I've never done SB programming before and I wonder, what is the complexity of a task such as playing .WAV files using the SB?

By programming I mean in DOS Real mode.

I've alot of programming experience so complex source isn't a problem.

  • Playing a wave file is not very difficult once you know how. You can do it either by directly writing each sample from the wave to the SB from, for example, a timer interrupt handler, or by setting up DMA playback. Both are not very hard, but again you just have to know how. There are plenty of tutorials on this site or elsewhere on the internet. I can recommend the PCGPE (PC Game Programming Encyclopedia), which has documents on all kind of programming techniques, including various sound boards and the DMA chip, and it has a collection of file formats explained.

    Hope this helps you.
