Hi. I am a rookie in VS.NET and began by myself reading about programming. I made my first simple program and
tried to create a web page with it. The instruction was to first enable de IIS in the Internet Manager Tools in WIn2000Pro.
I do not found this icon in the control panel. I made a seach in the whole HDD (c:) and do not found anything.
Please some advise.
Thx.

Start->Settings->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Internet Services Manager.
This opens the IIS MMC.

thx 4 the response. I tried this hundred of times and the only items that I found are the following:
-Component Services
-Computer Management
-Data Sources (ODBC)
-Event Viewer
-Local Security Policy
-Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Configuration
-Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Wizards
-Microsoft .NET Framework Configuration
-Microsoft .NET Framework Wizards
-Performance
-Services
-Telnet Server Administration
No IIS nor Internet Services Manager.
thx
Go to computer management. In there you should see something for IIS. Although I have an Icon for Internet services, I can also get there from computer management. It's near the bottom of the computer management tree for me under "Services and Applications" and then "Internet Information Services."
Also, I was about to suggest that you investigate correcting the missing applet, when it occurred to me that it is possible that IIS is not installed. This would explain your missing applet icon as I can't figure why it would ever get deleted. You can look in the services applet for "World Wide Web Publishing" or "FTP Publishing." If these are missing than it's likely you need to add/remove windows components from the add/remove applet.

There is no trace of the IIS in my HDD. It's possible that the .NET Framework delete this icon upon instalation? I'm a rookie in this stuff.
I will keep on VB.NET, C# and other languages. I have a long road to go, anyway. If I want to make some web pages, I'll use Frontpage.
Thanks 4 U help.

IIS is not installed by default. Install it off your WIN 2000 OR WIN XP cd depending on which ur using on your computer.
When u pop your CD you will have an option to install components and IIS is one of them.

: I had a similar problem and have two further points to add.
1) If you install IIS as a windows component Visual Studio indicates it is fussy about the installation order (i.e. IIS should be installed before VS) and you may need to reinstall VS to rectify.
Also.... if you like my good self went the cheap option and bought a standard vesion of VB.NET you don't get all the engines etc required to run asp type web services etc and may need to consider getting a copy of VS to rectify.

: Thx pals. In fact, I have had to re-install the VB.NET after activating the IIS in the add/remove programs.
I hope in one year or less to have gain enought knowledge in programming to make comtribution to all the community.
By the way, do you know any site in the web that sell a cd with all the win2000 pro patches up to now? Its really a pain to download all of them
from the MS site with a 56K modem. Can you name a GOOD .NET books source that offer applied .NET programming books using hands on examples and
practice problems?
Thx again.

"Programming Visual Basic.NET" by Franscesco Balena is the best book you can buy on VB.NET. The book is 1600 pages thick and has code examples and do's and dont's all over the place. It also compares code to some Visual Basic 6 code to help those upgrading as well. It teaches the .NET framework, Win32 Forms, ADO.NET, XML, ASP.NET, Web Services, and a heck of a lot more.
Franscesco kindly provides custom functions and tips that you probably could not find in the .NET SDK yourself. As a bonus the book comes with an electronic copy of his complete Visual Basic 6 book.
