I learned QBasic (not totally) in a few weeks. That was about a year and a half ago. I didn't know anything about computers then, and now I'm learning Visual C++ with MFC.
Get a feel for QBasic, and then move on to Visual Basic. After that you should be able to come back to C no problem.
