I'm not at all tech savvy. However, there's a new service in my hometown offering free wireless internet connections in some of the city parks. To read about it, go to www.wirelessinthepark.com. My question is, it says in order to use it "Configure your wireless card to connect to an infrastructure (AP) network with no encryption or WEP key." It says on the site "As the internet connectivity to the user of this program relies on wireless technology standard SSID security has been disabled for ease-of-use and convenience." So can anyone with the know-how grab my username and password out of thin air? And more importantly, what about encrypted websites. Even if I see a padlock icon, is it safe with this configuration? I know nothing about this stuff, so I appreciate any insight.
