How do I control the default browser????

I made it so that I double click on a URL in my VB app

and it then launchs a web browser that the user sets

up in preferances. I use the VB shell command to

launch the browser and pass the web page to it as an

arguement. Is there a way to reuse the same browser

window instead of launching a new window everytime??

Also is it possable to find the default browser on a

windows95/98 system without asking the user??

Thanks

Paul Sprague

    Paul,

Jumping to a Website Autmatically With the Default Browser

Note: The Win32 Declare first line as reads

    Declare Function ShellExecute Lib shell32.dll"

    should read

    Declare Function ShellExecute Lib "shell32.dll"

  • Crude, but maybe it would work.

If you have any sort of installation monitor, start it, change your default browser, and then check the log to see what changes. If this setting is in the registry or inifile or wherever, you should find out exactly where it is and then you can direct your program to look there.

I have used this method to find out many things.

  • Better yet:

    x=shell("start http://server.com/page.html")

This is the almost the same as entering http://server.com/page.html in the Run command on the start menu.

  • Hey Bob,

Thanks, that worked just like I needed it to.
