I'm new to embedded programming, and I'm looking for a small research project for my Grad class. If someone has any ideas, or could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.

Hi, Neena!
I would give you an idea for such a project, but it depends
on what kind of project you have to do.
Let's say, there may be two kinds of such projects.
One way to make a project "on the paper", I mean on a PC or some UNIX
station, as if it were a real embedded project. It means, to design some system and to write code for it, which will never run on any microprocessor, but on the PC or UNIX station one.
The other way is to design a software for some electronic board, equipped with some microcontroller, to write code and make it running on this electronic board - this is something else.

Hi there.
You want a project? I have one idea like my school project too. It is about making a remote monitoring system using a webcam, a step motor and a webserver. The embedded part is between the step motor and the PC. The PC controlls the motor through a digital circuit which need to be built, programmed on microcontrollers and tested. The webserver, website, should have some java codes to control the motor, left-right. This is a brief description. Does it help? If not, then try something else.
I'm an electrical/electronic engineering student.
