How do you open a TCP connection in Visual C++ 5???

I figured that it would be easy enough to do but I could find nothing on doing it, opening up a simple TCP connection to another machine. So I ended up trying to use am ActiveX control that I normaly use in Visual Basic called WinSock. However I was unable to figure out how to get it to work. Visual C++ doesn't seem to contain a Variant Data like VB. So how do you open up a TCP connection in C++?
