2D look in a 3D engine

I'm currently developing an RPG, and I want it to have

an anime style hand drawn look to it. I was planning

on using a sprite based engine, but because of the

features I have planned, I need to use a 3d engine.

Is there a way for me to produce and effect similar to

the various plug-ins for 3d studio max (ie Comicshop,

illustrate, cartoonreyes) that render a 3d scene in

a way that looks like hand-drawn 2d.

Is there a way to do that real-time?

Well how about putting a black border on all the polygons? All anime have black outlines around the different parts of the drawing. That certainly makes it look hand drawn.
