Hi!

A Netlist file is a description of how internal components are connected within a circuit or inside an IC chip.

Below you will see an example of a netlist generated for WinBoard by OrCAD SDT 4.20. This is only intended as an example. (Please observe that the line numbers are only for reference, and they are not supposed to be in the netlist file).
1: WINBOARD
2: `I "ORCAD.386.100";
3: `T "Demo board for netlisting";
4: `S "940326141825";
5: `F "demo.sch";
6: `R "A";
7: `C " This is a comment line";
8: `C
9: `D !@ 12mil 10mil 35mil 17mil 1,-1 T;
10: `N GND 35mil 15 35 17 * T;
11: `M RC05,RES.LIB,100K,F12B2CFA,R2,C,GR1
12: (1 NET2 PA A1)
13: (2 INP+ PA A1)
14: ;
15: `M CK-05,DEMO.LIB,200PF,F12B2CFF,C1,C,GR1
16: (1 NET2 PA A1)
17: (2 GND PA A1)
18: ;
19: M 8SO150,DEMO.LIB,LM393,F12B2CF9,U1,C,GR1
20: (1 VSS PO A1)
21: (2 INP- PA A1)
22: (3 INP+ PA A1)
23: (4 N002 IN A1)
24: (6 OUT OU A1)
25: (7 N0003 OU A1)
26: (8 VDD PO A1)
27: ;
Lines 1-8 contain the header information like title, timestamp, revision.
Lines 9-10 contain the net-track definition section. This entire section is optional.
Lines 11-27 contain the component and netlist information.

There's a description of the netlist format at:

http://www.ivex.com/techsupport/technical_documentation/winboard_netlist_format.shtml

Have fun!

Melissa
