Why SendMail takes so long to initialize ?

XtremeXtreme Member Posts: 5
when my Linux machine starts up , it reaches ,starting sendmail
then it does sumthing 4 about 3min ..then continue's with
normal bootup of linux .

is it bcoz , sendmail is trying to conect to a mailserver somewhere ?
(linux machine is conected to the internet via Local Lan )

Wil it go away by just configuring sendmail to use a loacl e-mail server ?

Sendmail is most likely trying to connect to a mail server that it is unable to get to. If you set it up as a local mail server then sure that would work. Optionally you could go and change the name of the rc script that starts it. ( I believe that you will find it in either /etc/rc2.d or /etc/rc3.d, I can't remember off the top of my head.) Change the name of S##sendmail (## is equal to two numbers), to something s##sendmail. This will stop sendmail from starting up at boot time.
