I was wondering how to set up an IPX compatible network between two computers using an LPT cable. What kind of protocols and other stuffs might i need to add to do this, and what progs to I need to take care of the dirty work for me?

You should go buy 2 Ethernet adaptors instead
There is some cheap one, you can get 2 for about 30$
custom design some hardware. The LPT port is not suitable for networking because,
unlike the serial port, it does not have any supporting hardware to control the
flow of data between two ports. This could be done with software, but you will
probably have a slow connection.
You might want to check the following link for more parallel (LPT) port info.
