getting smtp server from domain name

can neybody tell how to find the mail server for a given domain. i know its got something to do with dns but i am not sure.

    You can use the NSLOOKUP utility. It is included with all flavors of Unix/Linux, Windows NT, Win2K, etc. Just enter "nslookup". You will get a > prompt. Enter the name of the domain. Nslookup will return the DNS database records for that domain. Look for a record that includes "MX" as the record type. The MX record will tell you what the mail server for that domain is.

    If you don't see any MX records, try this command:
    set type=MX
    then re-enter the name of the domain.

    You can also go to this website:

    http://www.eye-net.com.au/itools/nslookup.php

    Enter the domain name and the program will give you the hostname and IP address of the servers, including mail server.
