tar commands

Ive heard there is a tar command which i can use to search the tape archive for a specific directory, does someone know it and how to use it?

    Yep, tar has such a command, but I am afraid, I don't seem to remember it. man tar and tar --help may be more informative.

    Actually the man page isnt very informative just abote this, but thanks anyway...
