Export Exchange 2010 Mailbox to PST File Using New-MailboxExportRequest

Microsoft introduced a new technique to export mailbox from Exchange 2010 server to Outlook PST file format using New-MailboxExportRequest cmdelt. This new technique of mailbox exporting replaces the earlier Export Mailbox Command method.

Before starting the procedure of how to create a new mailbox export request in Exchange server 2010, there are some important things that user should remember.

•No accounts are given permission to export mailboxes by default. User need to get these rights through the organization administrators.

•Client Access Server Role processed the “Mailbox Export Request” task. Any one of them can process this request, because multiple CAS can exist in a site. One should make sure that the path of export PST file is valid or is not for any CAS because it has to be Universal Naming Convention path to share network.

Run below mentioned command on Exchange Management Shell which helps to get permission to export mailbox to an account in the organization.

Create a Network Share Folder for Mailbox Export in Exchange 2010 Server

Now users need to create a share network folder in the system where they want to store exported PST file.

After creating the folder, Open “Properties option” >> hit on “Sharing” tab then click on “Advance Sharing” tab.

Now mark on “Share this folder” option then hit on “Permission” tab.

Now choose read & write options according to the requirement

Through the “New-MailboxExportRequest” users can export Mailbox with an Exchange server

After completing above mentioned procedure then users can start mailbox exporting process with “New-MailboxExportRequest” command. This command is based on two parameters one is file destination path of export PST file and another is alias name of the mailbox that you want to export into PST file format.

Now use “Get-mailboxExportRequest cmdlet” which shows the request status.

With the help of Mailbox Export Request users can also export Archive Mailbox from Exchange server to PST format.

Finishing the “Mailbox Export Request”

Once “Mailbox Export Request” command process is done it remains on the server. Administrator can delete this command using the “Remove-MailboxExportRequest” cmd.

If users want to see complete status of mailbox export request then they can run this command on EMS.

Using below mentioned command user can clear all complete mailbox export request from the Exchange server.

What to choose when New-MailboxExportRequest fails to Export mailbox from Exchange 2010 to PST

In case “New-MailboxExportRequest” command fails to export mailbox from Exchange 2010 server to PST file.
