I need to set the status "checked" using JQuery. Is it possible?

    jQuery 1.6+

    You can use the new .prop() function:

    $('<check box element>').prop('checked', true);
    $('.<check box element>').prop('checked', false);

    jQuery 1.5 and below

    Use .attr().

    To check the checkbox (by setting the value of the checked attribute) do $('<check box element>').attr('checked','checked');

    Any version of jQuery

    // Assuming an event handler on a checkbox
    if (this.checked)
