Is there a typical Ascii designation in binary?

If I had a printout of binary information and suspected it contained Ascii text, would there be a byte or bytes that would indicate ascii records or values and if so what might that typically be? When I say typically I'm not asking for any specific language, something general perhaps. Just looking for an idea that sounds plausible. I don't need anything too specific.
