Save sensitive data

tradmtradm Posts: 49Member
Hie,

I want my application to save UID and Password for login to MySQL Db. Are there any fn in .NET to encrypt/decrypt data (so that I can write to a textfile) or is it safe to use SaveSetting fn - How secure is the fn, does it save to the registry. Please help!

Thanks in advance
Mike

I have not had the pleasure of writing code to do it yet (i use prewritten functions my boss made before I started programming to do everything at work right now) but there is a sweet article on String encryption here:
    http://www.devarticles.com/c/a/VB.Net/String-Encryption-With-Visual-Basic-.NET/

If your looking for crazy encryption, check that out, otherwise I would suggest just reading about easy encryption techniques that you can use (for the most part if it isn't the FBI or a super saavy hacker, old transformation encryption techniques from the Ceasar days still work).

Hope this helps, that article is long, but trust me it is worth it.
