Adding Custom Columns to Windows Explorer

Hello All,

I'm new here and don't really know much at all about programming but really want to learn. I'm trying to add some custom columns to windows explorer so that it will display some custom properties from files in folders.

I found this article on MSDN: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb776831(VS.85).aspx

and this one on codeproject: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/shell/columnhandler.aspx

Is there any way to make a program that uses a .ini file where the columns that you want displayed are input?

Apologies for my novice terminology. I hope to learn more in time...I'll trade mechanical engineering help for anyone who needs it.
