Applet Transfer Speed Download Time Download Rate

Hi there. Larger Java applets takes a lot of time to download but I never understood how to actually load things and see how much is loaded. Anyone know of a good copypaste example of a applet that shows a "Download %"?

And another question if i make a server-client sockets how do i get the "transfer speed"? Again a nice copy-paste example would be nice.

Also I like the new looks of the forums i always wondered why the programming forum had such a ugly and old webbpage. Good Job. The "Post Thread" and "Preview Thread" and other buttons looks a bit blurry though. Also I feel like the "quoted text" should should have a smaller textfont rather than a : mark before every line.
