Streaming video with password protection problem

First off I am not sure if we are using a flash player or php or a combination of both to perform this operation. Here is what we need to do though.

We want to embed a streaming video that is password protected onto a website. We want the video to stream without asking for the password information. In other words we want a script that automatically inserts the password information so the video can be embedded and streamed. We aren't trying to hack it and skip the log in just trying to make it user friendly. Where would I start with this? I am a newbie if you haven't noticed but I've looked through all my ajax, java, and php books and could find nothing on the subject. I also pulled source from some sites with password protected video streams and could not find anything.

Thanks much for your time!

The simplest solution is to place the video in the same security realm as the rest of the page. Since the user only needs to log in to a security realm once, he doesn't need to login again to view the video (unless the user needs an external player).

Following up on the above, it really depends on how the rest of the authentication is done.. the beauty of PHP is that it allows you to use multiple different authentication methods. If you are using Apache and .htaccess secured directories, as said above you don't really need to do much of anything but make sure its in the same secured realm; however, what I would do for extra security is write an buffered video output script that makes sure the security realm authentication is valid before playing the video. The beauty of this, is that if you move the script (or video) outside of the security realm, you can slightly modify how the authentication is validated and it should work just as well.
