using GNU Free Documentation in software

Hi,

I want to release a free GNU licenced spell checker using wiktionary's vocabulary as a data source. I don't care much about the licencing of my own work. I just want to make this product available to the general public.

I'm trying to use some information extracted from GNU Free Documentation Licence documents(wiktionary database) and I'm wondering what I need to do to ensure no infringment is made. I'm far from a lawyer so the wordiness of the licence confuses me a bit and need extra clarification.

A copy of the licence is given at:
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.html

A wikipedia article on it is here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Text_of_the_GNU_Free_Documentation_License

What do I need to do to legally use derivatives of GNU FDL documents as data sources for my software?

  • Why don't you ask the owners of wiktionary?

    They should have the answer.
