Need help...new to programming

SoConfusedSoConfused Member Posts: 1
I'm looking to write a program to automatically download data from multiple web sites and compile the information into an excel spreadsheet. I'm very inexperienced in programming but willing to learn. For example, I want to go to a website http://samplewebsite.com/database/bills.asp?PROD=88851 From here, I want to be able to download some data. I can manually go here with excel and do a web query but it downloads a lot of extra data in addition to the data I need. I then want to be able to go the next sequential prod #. In otherwords, I need to get the same information from http://.........PROD=88852 then http://.........PROD=88853 and so on.... I need to be able to input the range of #'s. 88850 to 90000 for example. My intent in the end is to have data in excel that looks something like this:

PROD# PRICE VALUE
88853 $41.00 $42.50
88854 $35.25 $30.26
.....
....
90000 $24.25 $52.22

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This doesn't sound like a beginners thing to do.

    It involves multiple steps:
    1) Getting the HTML page(s) from the website(s)
    2) Parsing the HTML pages to find the information you need
    3) Interacting with Excel to create a spreadsheet and insert the data

Each of these steps is non-trivial and certainly not for a beginning programmer.
However, if you still want to try, start with step 1, and work your way down.

    Best Regards,
    Richard

The way I see it... Well, it's all pretty blurry
