need help identifying something

here's the scenario - i've got a program that opens an encrypted archive to validate passwords (and write new passwords) using a password that is hard-coded into executable. i know quite a bit about 6502 assembly, and conceptually about x86 assembly. the program that i'm working with uses a dll call dzip32.dll and dunzip32.dll to open the archive, so can't i trace the validation routine and find the code where it validates to see what the correct password is? i'm pretty sure i can, but i don't know exactly what to look for...

so i guess my question is, what might the validation routine look like in x86 code? specifically, the comparing of the inputted password with that of the correct one.

any help is really appreciated!
