Bit off more than I can chew??? I need help!

rocknhusrocknhus Member Posts: 4
I used to use vb way back when I was in school, and now my job requires that I build a form and put it to use. I have built the form (the easiest part) and now I must code it (the part in which I lost it all) I have spent many hours trying to research and get it done myself, and my last resort is here. I'm hopeing that someone will assist me in my process of getting this form to do what i need it to do. Here is the low down: I have a vb project in vb studio /vb 2005. the form is for conference room scheduling (that's the first tab on the form) the second tab on the form is for company ideas and the 3rd tab on the form is for general feedback on our intranet site. First, I would like to just code it so it works properly. 2nd, I need to know how I can take this form once it is built to an exe and figure out the best way to deploy in on our intranet, or maybe merge in into outlook so our employees will be able to use this. okay, the first tab is scheduling the fields are name, email, select room (dropdown list), setup style (dropdownlist) and select date(calenderpopup)

there are 3 check box field for selecting the media they want. there is also two text box fields to enter the start and finish time. then there is a additional comments field (textbox) the tree buttons are submit, reset, and done and need help coding these fields

I would like the users to use this form and click submit and be done with the form, right now we have a poor form on our intranet that just pops up their email and sends an .att file to the specified person. I am hopeing that if I can get help with this first tab, that my brain will react and I will be able to complet the idea tab and feedback tab myself. Oh, I also am going to include a print button.

I really appreciate it if someone would like to take my hand and help me through this.

Thanks,

Becky.

So for starters, what do you want done with the info for the first tab?
Once they enter their name, email, etc. what are you going to do with the info? Store it into a calender so that the room cannot be double booked or sent to a person or stored in a file?

I'm guessing that you will want to save this info into either a file for each room or a directory for each room with a file for each booking. Then they can instantly see if the room is booked or not and book it right then and there. Personally I would prefer the latter method for ease of scheduling and to keep files small. The filenames could be stored with the date as the name and multiple entries are allowed within a file for the same day (or week possibly)

Post back and we'll go from there.

Thank you so much for your willingness to help :) Well, what i would like is the info to be sent to our scheduler and then she would read the info and make the appointments in outlook. i would like it so when the user hits the submit button, it all takes place without haveing a pop up from outlook warning that an app is trying to send email. I'm so dissappointed in myself !!! I haven't take vb in years and i forgot so much, so now i'm kinda dead in the water. the form has 3 tabs on it one for schedling, one for ideas and one for feedback. I figure if I can get the first tab(scheduling) working, then I could apply that code for the other tabs. if you have an email, I could send you a jpeg of what the form looks like. here is the code for the first tab. oh, i have to go to a meeting..... i'll be back :) thanks so much

I'm failry new to VB programming as well, but have lots of background in Pascal & Assembly. Windows is relatively new for me, but I found this in the advanced VB forums:
    http://www.programmersheaven.com/mb/VB_Beginner/358744/359210/ReadMessage.aspx?S=B20000#359210

I "think" the problem is that outlook isn't going to send an Email without the users interaction as this would allow trojans to take advantage of this. The other method you may want to use is to send it through an SMTP server (although once again, I'm not much use). If done the latter way, you would need to ask the user for their Email info or have it send it from your own account probably. Anyways, check out the link on the advanced post, maybe it'll help you out.
