I have two files holderpage.html and test.html. There is javascript in the test.html page that directs location to the holderpage.html. What I an trying to do is access the innerHTML of the div element in the holderpage so that I can put some text ('Hello'). But I get an error saying that document.getElementById('...') is null or not an object.

holderpage.html

test.html
function loadpg()
{
document.location="holderpage.html";
document.getElementById("holder").innerHTML="Hello";
}
Is 'what I am trying to do' possible in javascript?

    It is possible, but each script defined in the header is only valid within that page. Thus as soon as holder.html loads, all scripts in test.html are invalid. You might want to place your script in holder.html instead, or use an external script (http://w3schools.com/js/js_whereto.asp).
