how to display the date selected in the calender into a textbox without posting the page. i.e., the page should not get fired.

    I don't know what calender your using, but you could try looking in the settings of the calender and seing if it has a postback option, turn that off.

    Look into AJAX or ATLAS if you are using ASP.NET 2.0. These technologies allow you to refresh server-side data w/out actually refreshing the page.
