Problem creating Suspended Thread

I want to make a thread in idle(suspended) state and want to resume that later so can it be done using pthread? and even if it cant b how can i do it can any one provide me with some idea more preferably an example how to create such thread and how to resume it later. It will b a grt help. If u can possibly tell me abt some e-book available which can help me out.

    well you could just create a new thread using pthread / fork etc, then use the pause() system call. pause() will cause a thread to sleep until a signal is recieved (you should set up some signal handling functions first).

    then when you want the thread to wake up and do something merely send it a signal using kill().
