I don't know delphi, but the second Q is easy to answear, search the web,(i.e. google).
The site: http://www.wikipedia.org/ got a lot of usefull info on soring algorithms too.

Try using the keywords bubblesort, quicksort, insert, sorting algorithm or beechick sort. (althou the last is patented, use it anyway to impress on your teatcher ;-))

Happy coding wishes

A rich edit can also be an instance of the TRichEdit control, which is a memo-like editor, but can also handle formatting. The native TRichEdit format is the rich text format: *.rtf file type.

The TRichEdit is a component, which (in Delphi 5) is located in the Win32 tab of the Component Palette. If it is place with a TOpenDialog and a button on a form, then you can use this code to read a text into it:
procedure TForm1.Button1Click(Sender: TObject);
begin
with OpenDialog1 do
if Execute then
RichEdit1.Lines.LoadFromFile(Filename));
end;
Delphi has allready the ability to sort stuff.
Import the textlines into a listbox and set the Sorted property to true.

Now all you need to do is to copy the text back from the listbox into the RichEdit component.

Use a sorting algorithm and it will work. I suggest quicksort, as it's the fastest and best.

Place all the values into a TList object, and write a compare function. Then call the Sort method with that function, and you have the quicksort algorithm.
