Compilation not working!

I have installed java on windows 98 in C drive and then wrote a simple sample program in order to test whether it works.Here is the program.
class test
{
public static void main(String args[])
{
System.out.print("ok");
}
}
and saved this in f drive .Then when i opened the dos and went to f drive and type javac test.java it says "Bad command or filename".
But when i just type java it displays a long list and when typed javac nothing happens.
Could you tell me how to solve this problem?Should i have to set class path?
