Hi problem regarding configuration

papu_cpapu_c Member Posts: 24
Hi
I am new to Oracle and have some configuration problems.

1)
Now I have installed Oracle 8i Enterprise on Windows XP
this installation is without Oracle Enterprise manager.
So whenever i uninstall Oracle or OS I lose all the tables created.
Basically I need the Exact command line text to take the backup of a table
(or the database if that is not possible)Along with this I also need the
recovery commands.Can any body tell how to locate that saved or backed up
table in the hard drive

2) I have installed the PL/SQL Developer software
Now that asks for the Username password and Database name or Databse Service name
Can any body specify what to provide as The service name and The Databese name

    While there are several utilities in Oracle for performing backups, the easiest to learn for moving data from database A to database B (if both are Oracle) is Export (exp). With it, you can export individual tables, an entire user, or the entire database.

    For interactive mode, where it asks you what to do, just type exp at the command prompt. You can also use command-line switches to answer the questions (user, password, what to export, etc.) for batch files.
    Here's how to have it export everything owned by the user SCOTT:
    Create a batch file called ExpScott.bat:
@echo off
    exp parfile='c:ackupexpparm.txt' FILE=%1 LOG=%1
Create a parameter file called expparm.txt (or whatever you want, but make sure the parfile line above is correct to reach that file, and replace {servicename} with your database's service name:
USERID=scott/tiger@{servicename]
    FULL=N
    OWNER=(SCOTT)
    COMPRESS=Y
    GRANTS=y
    INDEXES=y
    RECORD=Y
    ROWS=Y
    CONSTRAINTS=y
    CONSISTENT=Y
    DIRECT=Y
    TRIGGERS=y
    STATISTICS=ESTIMATE
Call this command from the CMD prompt like so:
ExpScott ExpFile.exp ExpLog.txt
The user performing the database has to have certain permissions. If it fails, try using the SYSTEM user above instead of scott/tiger or whatever. If that also fails, then you may need to run some config scripts to build the export structure.

    When you installed the database, you gave it a name. If you can't remember what name you gave the database, look in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. You will find a service called OracleServiceXXXX, where XXXX is the service name of the database.

    I hope this helps.
