placing data in a div

I know you can place data in a div with JavaScript using:
document.getElementById('theId').innerHTML = 'my data';

But how can I load another page into a div like it was an iframe...
an src= or href= doesn't seem to work.

Maybe I could use an iframe of 0px by 0px with the URL and place the document.body.innerHTML into the innerHTML, but I think there should be a much easier way...

can anyone tell me.. ?
the Netherlands...
