    Hi compjb,
This is not about programming language, its about how you construct the database. Searching speed will be increased if the data is properly indexed, and if you save your search query as a stored proceedure in SQL-Server. Then it doesn't matter where you call it from as SQL-Server has already parsed and optimised the query when it was saved as a S.P. - so the searching of the records will be done as fast as is possible. Just use the language that you feel most at home with, as this will provide you with a faster "build" time for your app. and will probably provide the fastest running code as you already know how to handle it to its best advantage. If you do not yet have one particular language that you know quite well then my personal suggestion would be to use Visual Basic DotNet (VB.NET) as the Basic language is quite intuitive and with the new .NET architecture it is as powerfull and as fast as any of the other languages as they all get compiled to the new Microsoft CLR(Common Language Runtime)
    Hope that helps you.
    Geoff
